10 best underrated songs of Hello!Project

Yes, finally another countdown. I really like those. Everybody’s busy making their Top of 2014 lists but I thought I’d do something a bit different (and probably do my Top of 2014 list later ==).

Hello!Project has many amazing songs that are rather too old or need a bit more time on one’s mp3 player to gain more acknowledgement among fans. I hope that you’ll find something nice for yourself or relive some good oldies you might have once listened to *sniff*.

The order is completely random.

Smile Bijin by S/mileage

It’s not so old but still there’s nearly not enough buzz around this great song. Lyrics are pretty random. The usual broken-hearted teenage angst. So what’s so ear-catching about it? The beginning. It makes you think of Yume miru 15, which was an EPIC song on its own. I highly recommend it!

I know by Matuura Aya

I’m not a huge Aya fan although I appreciate her amazing vocals and pure idol perfection. She’s just not my favourite. A bit too cheesy with earlier singles and a bit too mature with later ones. However, I know is so catchy that you just can’t help yourself with those Oh yeahs. I’d love to dance with her during a live performance.

Dekoboko Seventeen by W(double u)

Sighs. Aibon, my sweet Aibon. Lyrics combined with the very serious beat do not match at all but so what. I just love this seriousness. Very rare in idol songs. Their voices blend so well together. I’m always happy to watch any newer renditions of this song.

Kuchibiru Kara Ai wo Choudai by v-u-den

Those times when we all thought that v-u-den is the stupidest group name ever. Well, Tsunku likes to prove us wrong. But to get back to the song, again music doesn’t match the lyrics at all. But if you firget about the stupid meaning it’s an epic, aggressive song in which I forget how horrible all three of the vocalists sound.

I was never Kanna’s fan (were there any?) and Chisato needed more time to grow on me. Back then, with the LOVE escalation album, she was just a tomboy with a strange face and strong voice. The song was an instant favourite for me not because of the girls but purely because of the catchy melody. It’s really non-explainable.

Renaitte Nani? by Kago Ai

Well, with this one it’s a bit tricky. Aibon is my all time favourite and this might have biased my choice a tiny bit. Would I claim it’s a great song? Yes *coughmaybecough*. Would I claim that the lyrics are meaningful? Kinda *coughNOTcough*. Oh, just give it a try! Isn’t she the most adorable thing ever?!

Da Di Du De Do Da Di by Morning Musume

Don’t look at me like that! I know the title is ridiculous. I know the lyrics are random at best but it’s a really warm song designed for many idols to sing together and just hug and kiss a lot. Solo version of this sing just don’t work well for me. Even Aibon’s version is not so appealing to me. It’s nice but not great.

Do Don Ga Don Ondo by C-ute Erika Umeda (mainly)

*hands up* Don’t shoot! It’s not my fault this song is so unbelievably catchy. It’s silly, it’s nonsensical, it’s Erika Umeda’s disastrous vocals but I LOVE it. We need more of this song live. I bet Chisato would pull it off so well.

Zettai Tokeru Mondai X = ❤ by Matsuura Aya

This song gives me so much good energy. Just imagine yourself jumping with the crowd and chanting GO ON! GOING TO GO! Sheesh, this song is just plain stupid. But it’s pure win. There’s something very infectious about it that makes me smile and want to run and I swear to God I hate running.

Love da*yo Darling by Kusumi Koharu

Another silly, over the top, nonsensical song for little girls that I really enjoy. It’s the perfect example of the famous Koharu’s spazz. She might be a lousy singer, a mediocre dancer but as an entertainer she’s the one you’re looking for. This is the spazztastic anime-mode-on Koharu that you either love or begrudgingly admit that even Momo is less annoying.

The battle of hairstyles – fresh Momusu edition

8th place and 7th place

A tie between Gaki-san and Eririn – why anybody would pair two worst hairstyle makeover for the same photo? Rivers of tears were shed upon Gaki’s new hairstyle. They really screwed it big time. She looks older and less attractive. With Erin it’s somewhat a different story. She looks amazing in her PB Hatachi but fails to looks good in most of her photos. She’s just not my type. But the hair.. oh the horrible hair makes it even worse. It’s really one of the haircuts that looks awful on every body.

6th place

Linlin– the sporty hairstyle isn’t suitable for an idol. It’s more like a volleyball player hairstyle. Not too flattering but absolutely comfortable. There are many ways to make a ponytail look nice. E.g.

BLAND. UGLY. YUUUUK. As opposed to…

Takitty – don’t get me wrong, the hairstyle isn’t really bad. It’s very nice but there are better ones in the photo. I like the fact that the bun is a bit flat. Let’s look at the examples of nice buns and bad buns 😀

A really bad bun. First of all I don’t think that ANY bun would suit her face. I love Aibon with all my heart but I hate her looking like this.

The infamous grandma look Aya presented in the PV for her single Kizuna should be a warning for all japanese idols. Look out for the bun! Done badly can be lethat D:

A GOOD BUN. Airi would probably manage all hairstyles but the bun suits her exceptionally well.

The best bun so far. Why? Because it isn’t perfectly styled. It seems casual and for me that’s the point of a good bun. Somewhat loose and done carelessly.

JunJun– the hairstyle itself is great. That’s why she ranked this high. But the thing is that I prefer the cool and slick JunJun rathe than the annoyingly cute JunJun. That’s reserved for Sayumi. I think that Sayu and JunJun should swap the hairstyles.

3rd place

Sayumi – As already mentioned before Sayu would look better in sweet curly pigtails. Tha plait is too thick. She could have left her hair straight. But overall it’s good old Sayu.

2nd place

Reina– I tried my best to overlook her face. She looks so fake when trying to pull off innocent. But her hair is just plain great. She looks good with her hair down NOT half down. The ponytails she wore were irritaing. This version seems like a great alternative between her old favourite hairstyle and a new one.

Mittsi- sorry haters but you must admit that Aika looks so much better here than on her older photos. Her forehead isn’t gawking at anybody anymore. The hairstyle is cute, classy and works almost everytime. From the very begining of her career, Mittsi was regarded as the teddybear and only for Resonant Blue showed off her badass side – good for her! You can straigher this hairstyle a bit and we have the Resonant Blue look and than curl it for the teddybear session. Both thumbs up! XD Why the hell did she had to destroy it for Seishun Collection D:

Saki – I’m sorry Captain. I adore you so much yet you fail big time with your early hair. Now I see why she wasn’t too popular then. Since nothing interesting happens with her hair, everybody’s eyes were on her gigantic eyebrows.

Chinami– good gracious! She looks like a plain, bland, boring pupil posing for her yearbook photo D: This hair makes her rectangular face look even more rectangular.

Momoko- she was supposed to be the quirky and fun one, right? So where is it?! P L A I N and not even pretty plain. Just boring plain. Really, they are supposed to look like idols. Wearing school uniforms should help them look cute and innocent and not boring.

Yurina – the only consistent girl out of Berryz. It’s too sophisticated but it suits her. She’s almost there. Still a bit plain.

Miyabi – well, that’s a surprise. Usually I hate her hairstyles. It seems that she likes to go to the extreme with her hair. There’s always too much of it. Either as a bird nest or as a Niagara of hair extensions. But those plaits are cute. She used this hairstyle in her PB and it really helped with her pointy chin. Just cut the fringe. Look at Risako.

Risako – It might seem that I’m a hardcore Risako-hater. Not true! I’m just a hardcore fat-screeching-line-whoring-Risako hater XD But she wasn’t like that all the time. I mentioned it before. She was fucking adorable when she was younger! The cuteness of  young Risako meets the level of Airi’s always present cuteness and that means a lot said by me 😀 Those curly pigtails and a perfect fringe. Yummy.

Miyabi – no problems here ladies and gentlemen. I know that they wanted to go for the rockish look but this is  a bit over the top.

Tsunku: Alright, girls. This time I want something more hardcore.

Momoko: No more plastic props and pink khaki?

Tsunku: Mhmm.., I save this for the next single. I still can’t decide. Maybe a mix? Pink sparkly costumes from cellophane, cardboard props and plastic microphones a’la Rainbow Pink…

Chinami: We should stay cute and pretty but with this rockish edge. Just like Buono! Miya what do you think?

Miyabi: Fuck Buono! I’m sick of pop-rock. I want hardcore rock with a homeless person costume, an old rag covering my ugly forehead, sweaty armpits and smelly feet. I want to drink too much vodka and have a  blasting hangover and want to drink water straight from the toilet! Hell yeah!

Maasa – Oh, give me a break! The fierce Maasa? The one with THE LOOK? The kickass badass the EVIL? In a motherfucking ponytail?!!!!! With her hair covered in lard and stuck to the side of her face? She looks like a bookworm! Argh…  She would look so awesome with a truly rock (but still PRETTY) hairstyle!

Risako – yeah, quite high I must admit. It’s just because HALF of her hairstyle is decent. But the fringe?! God, I want to straighten it sooo badly D: It’s too girly and doesn’t suit the rest. Plus it makes her big head look even bigger.

Yurina – and that’s just because she looks nice with this hairstyle. It looks itsy bitsy edgy but still too bland.

Saki – I don’t really dig the whole “shave a half of your scapl” hairstyle that is so trendy this days. Two people in my classroon already did it! It looks horrible on everybody. Saki’s head survived the attack of the razor but they pinned half of her hair back. Remember Hitomi’s hair from her graduation concert?

No, nope, nada, niet, NIEEEE. There is just ONE person on the world that can look like nearly scalped and still be beautiful. Just ONE.

Chinami – I love her new hairstyle! It suits her well. A bit of baldness present but not so striking so I’ll survive 🙂 And the smokey eye?! I adore smokey eyes! She’s the only member of Berryz that managed to do the rock-and-cute hair. The winner needs some attention!!! Picspam!!! XD

P.S. Momoko doesn’t count because she must have fired her hair stylist recently and forgot to do her hair on her own XD
