2010 rankings – Top 5 songs to hum along Kumbaya

Fire is blazing happily and as long as we sit near it, mosquitos can bite their own asses off. Can you hear the gurgle of the river in the valley? Can you smell the grass?  Fetch me some weed, my friend. Khem, wood.  I said wood. To flare the fire up, you know.  Marshmallows anyone?  It’s time to sing. Great idea, Tommy! Let’s sing a song to suit the mood. Kumbaya? Fuck you very much, Tom, but enough is enough. We need something new.

Here you have it.

5. Berryz Koubou ‘ Kibou no Yoru’

Isn’t it the very definition of ‘mellow’? I want to hold hands  (NOT with you, Risako. And Maasa, won’t you please take your hand from my thigh? Geez..) and sway to the rhythm. Who cares about the words? Let the music flow. And perhaps shed some happy tears.  BTW, do you know what Yurina is holding in the pic? I chose it just because it’s very Kumbaya.

4. Morning Musume ‘Ame no Furanai Hoshi de wa Aisenai Darou?’

Okay, we’re all a bit khem fed up with this song being played again and again every second concert. And it’s not technically a 2009 song BUT it appeared on a 2010 album in a Chinese version with JunJun and LinLin sprinkled all over it. Yummy.  So stuff those marshmallows down your throat and bear with me.

3. Buono ‘Urahara’ / ‘Koucha no oishii mise’

Oh, yes. Urahara from Buono’s album We are Buono! Even the title sounds like Kumbaya. Can you see it? Especially thanks to the vowel ‘A’ 🙂 The other song, ‘Koucha no oishii mise’ is also very heart-warming. I decided to put both songs on the same place just to hounour the Kumbayaness of Buono’s album. You can safely bring the whole CD with you for camping.

2. Morning Musume ‘Namidacchi’

Don’t fight it. Grab your acoustic guitar, plaster a grin to your face and wave the hell out of those lighters. Or glowsticks. Whichever suits you best. I’ll be honest with you, live versions of this song make it so Kumbaya.  You have to keep the image of the girls singing their hearts out (and even Eri dancing like there’s no tomorrow) to fully appreciate it.

1. C- ute ‘Shigatsu Sengen’

No. I’m not biased because Airi is in C-ute. I love Sayu and MM is not number one, see? And Yes. It’s the perfect song although not on my list of favourites. But even I cannot deny the softness, the richness and the ‘hold my hand, my friend’ aspect of this song.  Forget the awful PV, the dreadful costumes and the members of C-ute you particularly dislike (I’m talking to you, MaiMai).  Mhmm… lovely.

Berryz Koubou ‘Kimi no Tomodachi’ – can it be number 6? Damn you, Berryz for stealing C-ute’s spotlight when it comes to albums. Shocking 5 was horrid. And Otakebi was awesome. Damn, damn you.

Yurina is holding a balloon filled with water, they’re popular in Japanese festivals. Those balloons have a thread and you can use it as some kind of yo-yo XD BTW, I adore that picture.

Oh and Kimi no Tomodachi is way too good T_T
