Berryz Koubou 6th Otakebi Album review

Berryz Koubou

1. Otakebi WAO

I admit, this song annoyed me at first with all the WAO WAO and Risako’s stentorian falsetto. But with time it grew on me. I think that only Miya’s voice sounds a bit out of place. Risako was made for this song! You know, the only way to enjoy this song is to stop treating it seriously. The same goes with Yuke Yuke Money Dance and all the goofy singles under H!P banner. My favourite line is :”Asu ni wa DONGARAGASSHAN Shouri no megami ga Matteiru”. So epic.

2. Rival

A fun song to jump to. The chorus is a bit irritating. Stop extending those vowels in “RAIBAAAAARUUU WAAAA” D: This time, it was Yurina who didn’t manage to sound good. She manages to sound horrific in most Berryz’s songs.

3.  Ryuusei Boy

Again, a song that needed more time on my mp3 player to let me like it. And again, Risako fits the strange old school theme. Phew, glad that PVs are not included on the album XD

4. Ai ni wa Ai Desho

The first song not being a group recording. So we have Momo and Miya. Two not so great singers. The song is fierce and a bit whiny. It sounds a lot like a song from  4th Ai no Nanchara Shisuu, my favourite Berryz’s album. It has the flavour of Baka ni Shinaide or Sayonara Hageshiki Koi. A very good path to follow.

5. Seishun Bus Guide

Yuk, I despise this song with all my heart. Even without the PV.

6. Kimi no Tomodachi

A slower song provided by all Berries. Well, it’s mostly slow with a dash of ridiculously up-beat chorus. Without the chorus and Risako’s vocals or monologue, the song would be really great. It’s still very good.

7. Ground Demo Rouka Demo Medatsu Kimi

Surprise, surprise ladies and gentlemen! It’s my favourite song of the whole album. And it’s sung by Yurina and Maasa! I was as surprised as you are right now. Just listen to it by yourself. It’s cute, catchy and fun. For some time I thought that only Yurina sings it! XD Their voices blend so nicely.

8.  Tomodachi wa Tomodachi Nanda!

This song is gonna make you smile. It’s so heart-warming. For me it was an instant love. Although the lyrics are soo cliche.

9. Kibou no Yoru

A ballad. Something that miss Manoeri would sing D: BLAAAND

10.  Dakishimete x2

Oldie but still goodie. Great PV and a great song. No comments needed cause I already said a lot about this song.

11. Yakimochi wo Kudasai!

It sounds a lot like Tomodachi wa Tomodachi Nanda!. Risako’s vibratto gets in the way but I still adore this song. Very good to hum while walking to the university 😀

12. Watashi no Mirai no Danna-sama

It’s a love-hate relationship. I guess it depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to bash my head against the wall when I hear the first sounds of this song and sometimes I deliberately skip all the songs on my mp3 player to find this particular song.

Overall, I’m honestly surprised by the high quality of this album. Usually, there’s just one or two songs I like but this time it was almost the whole album! Amazing. Well done, Berryz.
